Introduction to the ICT Hub
The ICT Hub is a coalition of over 32 voluntary and community organisations that have come together to help the voluntary and community sector move up in the ICT learning curve.
The ICT Hub aims to create a sustainable environment within which voluntary and community organisations can practically take steps to use and benefit from ICT, supported at local level.
NewsThree surveys by the ICT Hub aim to evaluate how effective the Hub has been in delivering services to the voluntary and community sector. The surveys deal with the newsletter and website; Knowledgebase; and ICT Hub publications. The latest ICT Hub Newsletter focuses on Governance and Trustees. There are articles on: Principles for Circuit Riders have been developed nationally, for individuals and / or organisations to sign up to. A Circuit Rider is a mobile worker who provides ICT support and development to a caseload of small voluntary organisations ICT Hub Knowledgebase has been running for over a year now. Say what you think by spending a couple of minutes completing the online survey. With regularly updated articles and research written by IT professionals it is a fully comprehensive resource. From now until March, a panel of experts is available online to answer your questions on any aspect of New Media. Visit the ICT Hub Café and go to the New Media discussion forum; or simply have a look around the site and join current discussions on ICT in the sector. ICT Hub Café The third ICT Foresight report Charitable Giving and Fundraising in a Digital World explores the tools available for electronic giving, such as websites and mobile phones, and looks at the impact of technology on traditional marketing methods. The ICT Hub Suppliers Directory, a free list of suppliers providing ICT products and services to the sector, has been re-launched after undergoing significant improvements. Information for users is now clearer and there is better accessibility and compliance with web standards. ICT Hub National Conference is on 11 March at Kensington Town Hall, London It will include keynote speakers, an awards ceremony and morning and afternoon sessions under the themes of ICT Management, Engaging new audiences, Protecting your organisation, and Using ICT. Workshops will include: How to avoid viruses and internet scams; Using the internet to reduce your carbon footprint; How to get the most from online fundraising; as well as opportunities to gain hands-on experience with Open-Source software. 'Is the voluntary sector getting its act together on ICT?' - a report by Paul Ticher for the ICT Hub revisits organisations surveyed 3 years ago to assess progress with ICT in the third sector. Charities and community organisations are urged to use technology more efficiently to save money and reduce their carbon footprint. Presentations from the ICT Hub Conference in March 2007 are available on their website. Regional ICT Champions are in place for each of the nine English regions to provide better resourced and connected infrastructure for championing support in ICT. The ICT Hub Think Tank is made up of senior figures from across the new media industry, focusing on developing practical cost-effective solutions for issues faced by the voluntary and community sector. The panel welcome any ICT queries from the VCS and also wish to hear from people who would like to attend one of the Think Tank meetings to contribute and have one-to-one support. A Discussion Forum allows comment on ICT issues. Current topics are: Discuss IT Volunteers, Funding, ICT in the Regions, Communicating with ICT and Discounted Products and Services. The ICT Connect scheme enables front-line voluntary and community organisations to explore their ICT needs by visiting another organisation that is using ICT well or in an innovative way. The exchange visits programme for second tier organisations has places available. Infrastructure organisations looking to increase their provision of ICT services are facilitated to check their plans against another body that already has a good service model. Costs are covered for the visit and the host receives a consultancy fee. |

- Research into the take-up and attitudes to ICT
- New media technology and open source think tanks
With Infrastructure Agencies:
- Events and web resources to share information about effective sustainable models of ICT support
- E forums
- Develop the UK Circuit Rider movement and facilitate the delivery of over £1 million worth of IT support
With the Corporate Sector:
- Lobby to develop their understanding of the sector
- Publicise information about discounted products and services
With funders:
- Lobby to develop their understanding of the total cost of ownership of ICT
- Provide briefings to help them fund and cost ICT

The ICT Hub Knowledgebase is designed to help community and voluntary sector organisations access the benefits of information technology. The knowledgebase is a comprehensive source of independent ICT information and advice developed and managed by Lasa on behalf of the ICT Hub.

Relationship of Hub activities with regional and local projects
The ICT Hub will operate in partnership with regional and local groups and will participate at their conferences and events.
Hands on one-to-one services will be provided at local level. Information about local service providers will be featured on the Hub’s Knowledge database and suppliers directory.
